Technician testing an oven's controls with a multimeter during a repair

An oven that runs 40 degrees cool ruins baking long before it stops working entirely. Most of the calls we take fall into three groups: it won't heat at all, it heats but not to the right temperature, or it heats fine and the controls have failed.

Common oven faults

  • Gas oven won't ignite — the igniter has weakened below the current needed to open the safety valve. This is the single most common gas oven repair, and a weak igniter often still glows, which is why people misdiagnose it.
  • Electric oven not heating — bake or broil element open, relay board, or a thermal cut-out that has tripped.
  • Runs hot or cold — temperature sensor drifted out of range, or the oven simply needs recalibration.
  • Won't hold temperature during a bake — sensor, control board, or a door that no longer seals because the hinges have sagged.
  • F-codes and error messages — most manufacturers store fault history; we read it rather than guess.
  • Door won't unlock after self-clean — a very common failure, usually the door lock motor or a thermal fuse blown by self-clean heat.
  • Broiler works, bake doesn't (or vice versa) — element or relay specific to that circuit.
  • Convection fan noisy or not running — fan motor or its relay.

A word on self-clean: the pyrolytic self-clean cycle is the leading cause of oven control board and thermal fuse failures across almost every brand. If your oven died right after a self-clean, that's not a coincidence. We can usually repair it — and we'll tell you how to keep it from happening again.

Wall ovens and built-in units

Wall ovens are heavy, trimmed into cabinetry and often stacked. Pulling one safely takes two people and the right approach, especially with double ovens and older cabinetry. We handle Wolf, Miele, Viking, Dacor, Thermador, Bosch, Jenn-Air, KitchenAid, GE Monogram and the rest of the built-in field, plus every mainstream brand.

Brands we repair

We service every major manufacturer, and we specialize in the premium built-in and pro-style lines: Sub-Zero · Viking · Wolf · Dacor · Miele. See the full brand list for everything else we handle.

Questions

Oven Repair — questions we get asked

My gas oven takes forever to preheat. Is that the igniter?

Very likely. A hot-surface igniter that has weakened will still glow orange but no longer draws enough current to open the gas safety valve promptly. Slow ignition is the warning sign that it's about to fail outright.

Can you calibrate my oven if it bakes 25 degrees cool?

Yes. Most modern ovens have an offset calibration you can set once the actual temperature is measured. If the drift is more than about 50 degrees, the sensor is usually out of tolerance and should be replaced rather than calibrated around.

Is a cracked oven door glass worth repairing?

Usually yes, and it's worth doing promptly — the inner glass is part of the thermal seal and a structural safety component. Replacement glass is available for most brands.

My oven locked itself during self-clean and won't open. Can you fix it?

Yes, and it's a routine call. The lock motor, the door lock switch or a thermal fuse is normally the cause. Don't force the door — that turns a small repair into a big one.
