Freezer failures are sneakier than refrigerator failures — you often don't notice until something has already thawed and refrozen. The most common causes we find are a defrost system that has stopped cycling, an evaporator fan that has seized, a door gasket that stopped sealing years ago, or a sealed system slowly losing charge.

Built-in freezer columns

Freezer Repair — questions we get asked
My freezer works but the refrigerator above it is warm. What's wrong?
That pattern almost always points at airflow rather than cooling. The most common causes are a failed evaporator fan, a frost-blocked evaporator, or a damper that isn't opening. The compressor is doing its job — the cold air just isn't reaching the fresh food section.
How cold should a home freezer actually be?
0°F (-18°C) is the target for long-term food storage. If yours is holding 10°F to 20°F it will still keep food frozen, but it will freezer-burn quickly and it's a sign something is wrong.
Can you fix an ice maker that makes small or hollow cubes?
Yes. Small or hollow cubes usually mean low water pressure at the inlet valve, a partially frozen fill tube, or a clogged water filter. All three are common and quick to correct.
