Technician diagnosing a built-in dishwasher's wiring while the homeowner looks on

Dishwashers leak into cabinetry and flooring, so a small problem gets expensive fast if it's ignored. They're also the appliance most often misdiagnosed as broken when the real issue is a clogged filter, a blocked spray arm or the wrong detergent.

Faults we repair

  • Leaking from the door or underneath — door gasket, sump seal, a cracked spray arm, or the water inlet valve. Underneath leaks need attention right away.
  • Water left in the bottom after a cycle — drain pump, clogged filter, a check valve stuck open, or a garbage disposal knockout plug that was never removed at install.
  • Dishes coming out dirty or gritty — clogged filter, blocked spray arm jets, low water fill, or a failed wash pump.
  • Not drying — heating element, vent flap, rinse aid empty, or a condenser drying system that needs attention.
  • Won't start or won't fill — door latch switch, inlet valve, float switch or control board.
  • Error codes — Bosch, Miele, Thermador and Miele-built machines all store fault codes that tell us exactly what tripped.
  • Loud grinding during wash — something in the sump, or a failing circulation pump.
  • Detergent pod not dissolving — dispenser latch, low water temperature, or a blocked lower spray arm.

Panel-ready and integrated dishwashers

Custom-panel dishwashers from Miele, Bosch, Thermador, Sub-Zero/Cove, Viking and Fisher & Paykel need care on removal — the panel, the toe kick and the countertop mounting all have to come apart in the right order. We do this work regularly and we protect your floors and cabinet faces while we do it.

Quick check first: pull the bottom rack, twist out the cylindrical filter in the sump, and rinse it. A clogged filter is the single most common cause of "my dishwasher stopped cleaning" — and it takes two minutes.

Questions

Dishwasher Repair — questions we get asked

There's standing water in the bottom of my dishwasher. What should I check?

Clean the sump filter first, then confirm the drain hose has a high loop and that the air gap at the sink isn't clogged. If it's a new install and it has never drained, the disposal knockout plug is very often the culprit. If all that checks out, the drain pump has failed.

My dishwasher isn't cleaning like it used to. Is it worn out?

Usually not. Nine times out of ten it's a clogged filter, blocked spray arm holes, hard-water scale, or water arriving too cool. We clean and test the wash system and tell you which it is before recommending any part.

How urgent is a dishwasher leak?

Urgent. Water gets under the cabinet base and into the subfloor where you can't see it, and the repair cost of the flooring quickly exceeds the appliance. Shut off the supply valve under the sink and call us.

Do you work on Miele and Bosch dishwashers?

Yes — they're two of the most common machines we service. Both store diagnostic fault codes we can read on site, which makes for a much faster and more accurate diagnosis than trial-and-error.
